Sforza Castle in Milan, Italy

A stunning monument, the Sforza Castle today shelters a number of specialized museums and remains the symbol the glorious past of the city of Milan. Many call the castle an oasis of culture and art.

Initially a Visconti fortress, Sforza Castle became the home for the city’s rulers, Sforzas later on. These rulers converted it into a majestic ducal palace that was beautifully decorated by the then renowned stalwarts like Leonardo da Vinci and Donato Bramante. However, the castle went under a thorough restoration under the helm of Luca Beltrami in the 19th century. The architect transformed it into the hub of the civic museums of Milan.

Apart from the fabulous ensemble of modern and ancient art, the complex boasts richly decorated furnishings and beautiful frescoes. Today, Sforza Castle has emerged as a preferred weekend destination in Milan for old and young.
